Jay Crowther
Biography
Jay Crowther is a painter of everyday life, he paints portraits of his friends,shoes, chairs, his dog, he is influenced by the cool light of the uk and his palette is sensitively considered creating beautifully crafted images.
He employs a variety of 'fast' and 'slow' styles which represent the myiad ways of looking. The preparation of the surface he is to be working on is important , he starts with using an acylic primer applied in a particular way to establish a surface.
Subsequently a coloured ground is added, mixed from thinned oil paint, often areas of unpainted canvas are incorporated in to the composition. He recently has been painting on found wood panels which already have history ingrained in them.
Jay has shown at the National Portrait Gallery and teaches drawing in his village of Bursledon on the Hamble river Hampshire.
