Katty McMurray

Biography

Katty McMurray is based in Brighton and has been painting under the arches, from her seafront studio, for the last seven years.

She travels across the world in search of inspiration. Her most recent body of work is based on Zanzibar, and a tiny island off the bay of Naples called Procida. She has also visited Vietnam, India, Cuba, and many parts of Europe.

While away, she spends her time sketching, recording her immediate impressions by looking at shapes, lines, and colours. On returning to her seafront studio, these drawings are used as a base for her larger paintings in oil on canvas, keeping the strong lines and using colours to recreate the atmosphere of the particular place.

Since graduating from the Chelsea School of art, she has had a series of sucessful solo and mixed shows (many of which have been sell outs!). She continues to exhibit with some of the top galleries around the country, including the CCA Galleries, Cambridge Contemporary Art, Ingo Fincke, and Wills Art Warehouse.

Katty's work has been published as limited edition prints by CCA Galleries and Artizan Editions. She was the Brighton Festival Poster artist in 1999. She has also had cards and posters published by the Art Group.
