Martin Procter

Biography

Martin Procter was born in Yorkshire in 1942, moving to Devon in 1956. For many years he was involved in architecture and award winning building projects, with a five year spell in St Lucia, West Indies. Having worked alongside the late John Blockley, who exhibited Martin's work at his Stow gallery, for the past eight years he has been fully committed to painting.

His architectural background is evident in his paintings, with his love of form and structure in the landscape. More concerned with atmosphere and sense of place than with conventional representation, he translates sketches made on location to construct his striking compositions. A natural and instinctive artist, he uses a mixed media of watercolour, gesso, gouache, acrylics and collage on paper and canvas.

Firmly established as one of the Westountry's leading contemporary painters, he has had numerous group and solo exhibitions. His work can be found in private and public collections in the United Kingdom and overseas, and in an exclusive range of limited edition prints. (see links - prints/studio originals).
