Rachel Deacon

Distinctive, figurative paintings by a local artist

Rachel was born in London and studied at Chelsea School of Art, graduating in 1991. She bases her work on a narrative, using short stories or poetry as inspiration and creating a scene or an idea in drawings. Focusing mainly on the female figure, shapes and contours of the body are used to create a strong composition, coupled with rich colours, shadow and an ambience of light. She uses traditional oil painting techniques and embraces the convention of the classical composition – but with a contemporary twist.

Rachel is influenced by painters such as Paula Rego and Frida Khalo. She currently lives and works in London where the majority of her exhibitions are held.
